Geoff McBride
Music, to me, has been and always will be a constant story of life. As I discovered my talent to sing, the challenge was how do I raise my voice to be heard? And so the journey began. Loving music as much as I do, I subjected myself to as many different genres of music as possible. Listening to great artists from Stevie Wonder to James Taylor, Aretha Franklin to Janice Joplin, and to different forms of music from soul to rock, from pop to country and everything in between; they all had one thing in common: They could tell an incredible story through song. As a teenager it was then I discovered the emotion of other instruments and sounds that married well with voice. I have always believed that music has no concrete origin but, yet, a universal language that we all understand.
At eighteen, I formed my first band and experienced people’s emotion towards music. Continuing in my journey, I signed with Arista Records, which opened the door for me to encounter the appreciation of music in different cultures. It also allowed me to work with artists that I admired as a young adult, such as Gerald Levert, Teddy Pendegrass, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Holliday, Kenny Rogers, Alabama and Jermaine Jackson. It was then, in my career, that I understood how to tell a story in its full range of emotion through song.
Deciding to take a step back in order to come into my own sound was rewarding, as now I have learned to write and produce what I really feel. Over the past years, I have been blessed to work with some of the most gifted writers and musicians in the world. All of them taught me how to express my emotion through lyrics.
After many venues have been my home, I thank those places in time for the time and now it is time for the world to experience the voice of tradition, Geoff Mc Bride.
